How to Smoke a Pipe

1. PREP YOUR TOBACCO

  • Beginners, use ribbon cut for easiest packing
  • Let tobacco dry for 10–15 minutes
    Slightly springy, not wet

2. PACK THE PIPE

Use the 3-step method:

  • Bottom: light press
  • Middle: medium press
  • Top: firm press

Draw should feel like sipping through a straw

3. CHAR LIGHT (FIRST LIGHT)

  • Apply flame while gently puffing
  • Move flame in a circular motion
  • Let tobacco rise, then tamp lightly

4. TRUE LIGHT

  • Relight evenly
  • Puff gently until you get a consistent ember

Now you’re smoking

5. SMOKE SLOW

  • Take slow, steady sips
  • Don’t overheat the pipe
  • Let it rest between puffs

Cool smoke = better flavor

  • Tamp lightly as ash builds
  • Relight as needed (completely normal)

7. FINISH & CLEAN

  • Let pipe cool fully
  • Empty ash gently
  • Run a pipe cleaner through the stem

Rest your pipe before next use
