Barling Nelson Fossil (1823) (9mm)
Barling Nelson Fossil (1823) (9mm)
Barling is one of the most legendary names in pipe history, especially revered in the estate market. Known for precision engineering, exceptional briar, and classic English shaping, Barling pipes, particularly pre-1960s examples, are considered among the finest ever made.
Like Barling's Trafalgar and Admiral series, the Nelson line pays tribute to Horatio Nelson, a British Admiral who became a legend in 1805, when he overpowered the Spanish and French fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar. Presented across a variety of distinctive finishes, each pipe in the Nelson series features a sterling silver accent carved to resemble braided rope, honoring one of the primary tools found on a naval ship of the time. Such is the case with this 1823 Bent Pot, dressed in the Fossil finish.
